HOWTO:  Install Nokia PC Suite and Connect your mobile phone

For this guide we used:

Windows XP Desktop PC / Nokia DKU-2 USB Cable / Nokia 6230 / Nokia PC Suite 6.2

(make sure you have installed the drivers for your DKU-2 USB cable before commencing install of PC Suite: see DKU-2 install guide.. HOWTO: Install Nokia DKU-2 USB Cable drivers . Like wise if you wish to connect by bluetooth, etc.)

The Nokia PC Suite is the set of applications provided by Nokia for connecting your Windows PC to your mobile, and does the following:

1. Synchronize your addressbook and calendar with Outlook (Very useful)

2. Install new applications

3. Transfer files to phone memory and to MMC (incl music with Nokai Audio Manager)

4. Send SMS messages from your PC.

5. Some other multimedia stuff like editting photos, view video etc..

6. Backup/Restore of your phone and MMC memory (this will also transfer your data between phones..)

You should have a copy of the PC Suite with the CD supplied with your mobile. But for the latest version, goto this link: (make sure that version is compatible with your mobile, as not all are)

http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,54692,00.html

The latest version for 6230 (and also Nokia 7610) is 6.2. Download and save to temporary place (C:\temp) and then double-click the downloaded installation file.

Press NEXT, to install the software (to default locations).

When the installation is complete, now connect your phone to the PC. The easiest way to connect is probably with the Nokia DKU-2 USB cable. (but you can also connect with serial cable, infra-red or bluetooth)

You should have 2 new icons in your taskbar, float over the synchronize icon, and it will tell you if your phone is connected. If it says 'Not Connected' like below, then right-click on the icon

This will raise a menu, and from this select the 'Phone Selector'.

If you have an empty list, then press 'Connection...'

You have to make sure your connection type (probably you will use USB connection) is activated. Then press 'OK'

You should now see your phone listed in the phone selector dialog. By pressing OK, you have verified connection to your mobile.

Now you are able to use the different applications in the Nokia PC Suite (to transfer your music to your mobile and MobyMemory MMC, backup, synchronize your contacts etc..  )

More on different apps later..

"any idea why Nokia Audio Manager hardly ever recognizes my phone yet all the other applications see it all the time via a bluetooth connection"

I know this was posted a while ago, but i've just bought a 6230 and have a nice new 512mb memory card which i would be happy with but i'm having exactly the same trouble as dazza, but nokia audio manager hasn't recognised my phone once yet, but all the other applications in nokia pc suite do. Does anyone know why and what i can do to rectify this?

Cheers

Hi

I have just installed PC suite following the instruction on this page (after installing the USB and my 6230 by following the instructions in the other thread).

When I select 'Phone Selector' to select my connection and then my phone, I only have the option of selecting 'Infrared' or 'Serial cable' when I have very correctly installed the USB driver, infact I have done in twice just to recheck.

Does anyone know what the problem could be and why I can't see the USB connection as an option?

Thanks. A reply will be much appreciated

Lilly

Lilly,

your problem lies with the installation of the drivers for the Nokia DKU-2 USB cable.

Once this is setup properly, then when you install Nokia PC Suite, you should always get the USB connection type available to you as well as the infraRed and serial options.

did you follow the full setup of Nokia DKU-2 Drivers..? If not the latest drivers are available from here:

Nokia DKU-2 USB Cable Drivers for the Nokia 6230 download from here Make sure you select the right download for the operating system you have on your PC (which is what, by the way, Windows XP..?)

We have a HOWTO guide to help on the install of DKU-2 drivers as well to help you.

let me know how you get on.

cheers

Hi webmaster, thanks for your reply.

I have used the instructions to install the USB cable. I do have the correct driver aswell, it is for Windows XP.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem is still the same, I do not get an active USB connection.

One thing though that does differ from the installation instruction guide is that at step four where the PC recognizes the phone and the USB connection, when I click the alert I do not get the 'Welcome to the found new hardware wizard'; instead I am shown the various different hardware that is recognized (to do with Nokia 6230 like the USB, OBEX, Generic etc) via the alerts and after it has alerted that it has recognized all the hardware it alerts that the hardware was successfully installed and is now ready to use.

Maybe that is the problem? I do not understand why the hardware automatically installs without the wizard.

Your help will be appreciated

Thanks

lilly,

Why not check the Compatibility tables here to make sure you you are using the right combination of Nokia PC suite, and DKU-2 cable drivers for your Operating system...

Nokia PC Suite - Mobile & O/S Operating system Compatibility tables

Nokia DKU-2 Cable Driver Download

NB. You should make sure you have the latest drivers for cable with the latest version of PC Suite. (sometimes differing versions have not been developed/tested by Nokia, and you can get unreliable results.

Try this and see if it helps

Cheers
