| Posted 11/16/2005 2:54 PM | | | I have a brand new w800i.
On connecting it to my mac to transfer mp3's, my computer crashed and my phone no longer recognises the memory card. Its the card that came with the phone - a scandisk memory duo 512mb.
I've also tried to format the card in other devices but nothing will recognise it.
Searching around on other forums i see quite a few people have had similar problems with the same phone.
Any ideas?? |
| Posted 11/16/2005 9:59 PM | | | it can be a problem when the partition table is damaged on a flash memory card that devices cannot establish a valid connection to be able to re-format. they are most vulnerable during WRITE operations if/when power is cut off. Can be an issue in some phones when battery life is low too.
first though i suppose, it to try a standard compatible USB2 PRO DUO reader, and see if that will allow/manage to format at the DOS prompt. this will often work when the Windows layer will not allow a valid connection to be made to be able to format.
if no luck with that approach, however, occasionally, devices will insist on partitioning and formatting a card in one go... some digital cameras can behave in that way.. and this can sometimes enable a badly corrupted card to be recovered in this way..
i dont have that kind of knowledge/experience on the PRO DUO / PRO memory card side... s i cannot suggest a device to try.. to see if it will restore it to health.. sounds like you may have tried a few devices already...
not very cheery news i'm afraid. but i hope that some of that might help.
Cheers

another PRO DUO guy had a damaged card and a decent PRO DUO reader (one of ours ) was able to bring it back from the brink...

Please note, obviously we cannot guarantee this will sort out your SanDisk 512Mb PRO DUO card, but if you can use the reader anyway.. then it might be worth considering.
cheers

Is it possible for a device (such as my phone) to 'fry' the card beyond all repair though? Or could this just be a corrupted file structure like you suggest? |
| Posted 11/17/2005 11:22 AM | | | If your W800i crashes the computer (as mine did, and my wife's K750i) in Tiger, then you should install this: http://www-users.kawo2.rwth-aachen.de/~razzfazz/k750igrabber/
It stops the computer crashing upon disconnect every single time otherwise.
Also, in iTunes, I make up little playlists (totalling a bit under the size of the memory card) and shunt the music across using this: http://www.nesfield.co.uk/synctunes/
It's better than copying the mp3/mp4/aac files over manually, as it avoids those dot-files showing up, and it also takes care of podcasts should you use those too (I suppose I should try one out one day).

| Posted 1/18/2006 4:03 AM | | | I have the same problem here. I only don't have the pc crashes. I was viewing and editing some images directly in my pc (Win XP) and sudently the pc cannot read anymore the memory stick from the phone. I remove the usb cable and reconnect and nothing, the memory stick are no more readable. The phone do not start with them inside. My cybershot do not access them to. I only repair (see) the phone start to recharge the battery. I don't know if this are the cause for corrupting the memory stick!?!? If i use your USB2 MS PRO DUO Card Reader / Pen Drive, can i manage to recover my memory stick pro duo 512Mb (Sandisk) from my Sony Ericsson W800i phone?? And if not, what i have to do? I'm from Portugal and i ask you sorry for my poor english hehe. Can you send me the estimative price i have to pay to receive the USB2 MS PRO DUO Card Reader / Pen Drive in Portugal? Thanks for the time to read and respond this post. |
| Posted 1/18/2006 9:37 AM | | | Hi Sorry you are having the same problems.
It turns out that there was a fault with some of the memory cards or handsets.
You need to take them both back to the shop you purchased them from and make a complaint and ensure that they replace your memory card as it is faulty.
Good Luck.
