HOWTO:  Split MP3 Files into smaller parts for use as Ringtone

For this guide we used:

Windows XP Desktop PC / MP3 Splitter Software

MP3 Splitter allows you to split MP3-files either by size or by time. Even very big files can be split. If you wish, it can also create a batch file to join the splitted files later. If you want, MP3 Splitter appears in the shell context menu of MP3-files, so that you can access the tool very quickly.

Furthermore, MP3 Splitter allows you to cut selections out of MP3-files by giving starting and ending time. This is very handy for taking a particular segment of a song (e.g. the first 30 seconds) and turn it into a smaller MP3 file (<1mb) that can fit easily in the memory on your phone so it can be used as a ringtone.

You can download as freeware MP3 Splitter from here.

Open MP3 Splitter.

Then open the MP3 file which you want to split.

Set where you want to save split file and set the name of the file.

Now you can select to split by File size or by Length of the file. Chose selection and length of file (e.g. Start-00:00:01  Ending-00:00:30 - for thirty second file length). Than press Create.

Output file is reported by file size and length of file, and you now have an MP3 file of much smaller size (about 1/6th size for average song length) which you can use as Ringtone on your phone memory.

NB. It does not currently handle VBR MP3 files.

Still a great little utility, and thanks to the author Hans-Jörg Happel, available as freeware.

Gets a thumbs up from us at MobyMemory
