Transcend 2GB in SX1

I recently bought a Transcend 2GB MMC for my Siemens SX1, it says in the information on mobymemory that it should work, but I can't get it to work. It seems to work ok in the PC but files written to the MMC on the PC cannot be read back on the SX1. Also it doesn't seem to be possible to create new files on the SX1. Do I need to reformat the MMC in some special way?

Why is manufacturer of MMC important??? Once formatted, shouldn't they all be the same??

I'm in Australia so hadn't come across Moby Memory until recently. Previously, I bought a 1GB MMC over Ebay - for my Siemens SX1. The phone recognises it, can format it, etc. I've got a card reader and have also formatted via the PC.

My problem is this: I format the card as FAT 16. Then start dragging MP3's to it. Once I get up to 250MB used or thereabouts, the card corrupts, and I have to reformat again.

I've read that you can't have above a certain number of files in the root directory with FAT 16, but I'm moving them to E:\MP3\A\song name. I also thought it was due to my long filenames - artist - songname, but the other night I tried renaming the file names simply to simple numbers, and have exactly the same problem - corrupts at about 250MB.

I don't believe the phone is part of the problem, it is going wrong before I even get it to the phone. Has to be related to the FAT16 somehow right?? Since the card clearly shows as having 980MB available both on the PC and on the phone.

So then my question is - if it's related to the FAT16, why would this problem not exist regardless of card manufacturer - given that they will all be formatted using FAT16. I just can't understand why I would for example, be able to format your card as FAT16, then proceed to drag MP3's to it, and be able to keep going up to capacity of card.

One final thing - if I do purchase one of your cards, can you tell me if I will run into problems due to length of filename, or is the key thing to just make sure not too many files in the root directory??

I have a sd 512k card which i have been using with my digital camera, is it possible to use this with siemens sx1,when i look under your sd card section it doesnt show the siemens sx1 under list of compactible phones, sorry just wanted to confirm,thank-you.

I have just purchased a 1gb mmc from you to use with my SX1. Put card in phone and formatted. Although a lengthy process it appears to have worked ok and I have checked against your images posted on this forum.

Then placed card in my card reader and tried to cut and paste itune mp3 files. This process has and continues to be completely successful with two 128mmc cards I have been using for MP3 play on the SX1. But when I try the 1gbmmc each time I am greeted with the message that the disk (i.e the 1gb mmc) is write protected and I can't either delete or add to it.

Puzzlingly if I use the Siemens data suite I can transfer MP3 files from the itunes folders to the 1gbmmc when it is in the SX1, although be it at a snail's pace and these play fine on the SX1.

I know it is not my reader because it still works fine with the 128s.

I am using Windows XP

i bought 512mb mmc 06.2004 and from few days i'cant format the mmc (because phone starts to have mistakes and rebooting all the time - i formated and upgraded the phone - no result - still the same... finally i tried formating the mmc and it took about 3sek (not 1 hour!) and i had massage that formating is done - but it was still full!!!!!(i tried 5 times - even after restart!)

i even tried to format throu the windows but there was error!

mmc already corrupted??

Hy. I bought monday night a 1GB MMC. I got it yesterday in France, Paris. So thanks for the service.
Good price, goog quality, good shipping.

About usage :
First, I had to format the MMC (1,40 hour) otherwise, my SX1 refused to start up with the card loaded.

My usage : Music.
I can put 19 albums of MP3 (between 128 and 192 kb)
Here the way I've put them : E/mp3/artist/album/songs. Finally, same as Itunes.
About playlists. I want One playlist by album. I wanted to do them on my computer, but no way. I had to do them on the phone. Once donne, I've put all the playlist in a folder E/playlists/ In that way, when I brownse the folders with FExplorer, I just brownse the playlist folder to play all my music. It's fast and easy.
Also, I've save the playlists I've done on my computer. In that way, next time I put the same albums, I wont have to build the playlists again. So, It's a hard time at the beginnig, when you put the albums for the first time on the phone. Next time will be easyer.

The other way was to start the MP3 player app. But, with the 1GB mmc and all thoses albums, it takes a very long time to start and show all the music, tracks and playlist. So, If it's an easy solution with a 128 mmc witch can store up to 3 albums, You can forget it with a 1GB mmc and around 20 albums.

What else. The 1GB is not slow or slowing down the phone, as I've read somewere on the web.

Also, Pluged into a PCMCIA card, the max transfert rate I go with the 1GB MMC was 1,20 MB/s (or Mo/s). The average was around 900 KB/s (or Ko/s for french). So, quiet far from the official 2 MB/s
Anyway, I want change the content every day.

Yes, one thing more. This MMC is thick compare to my 128 mo MMC. That mean, It's very limit with my MMC card reader. It's limit, but it's OK. Also, in the Siement SX1, no problem.

Well, In one word, I'm happy of that purchase. The Siement SX1 begin to be a perfect multimedia player.

For those that were interested in our new 1Gb MMC, and its compatbility with the SX1, i have taken a few screenshots while we have some in stock.

Displays track no, and total songs on UltraMP3. (Played a random sample with no problem). Tested from low bit rates up to 320kbps.

With large no of MP3 (or other files), it is best to keep the numbers low in the root folder, and use sub-folders to store them. This is not a problem specific to the 1Gb card, but a limitation of the FAT file system that becomes more apparent with the bigger cards.

Check the total memory used..

Interestingly, our memory card readers had a few problems, which formatting on SX1 actually fixed (usually the other way round).

Performance is slightly improved over our 512mb card, with Read speed hovering around 2mb per second, and write speed just below.

These tests were done under v10 of firmware.

More information is due soon in the official test report on SX1.

i bought 512mb MMC MobyMemory Card! it traveled to me (Poland) 4 days (ONLY!-i expected about 7 days)! these cards works great! "512mb" has 501mb memory (kingston had 490mb)! i'm glad that i bought MMC from MobyMemory! congratulations!! great job!

What do I have to do to check if MMC works with SX1

Unless the card comes pre-tested, then you should try it in your phone.

Ideally, it should be recognized correctly when inserted. Place it in the card slot, and go to the [Extras] menu, and either open the [Memory] app, or the [File Mngr] app.

If [Memory] app, the capacity should be listed, and available memory listed (and should -almost- match the capacity).

If [File Mngr] app, select the drive letter E: (this is always the external MMC card), and from the [Options] menu select [Memory Functions/Memory State].
This should give a list of the total capacity on the phone, and free memory.

There is a possibility that the card will not work "out of the box" with your SX1. This is when the file system format on the card is non-compatible with your phone (a memory card can use most file system formatting standards from NTFS, FAT32, FAT (16), and others). SX1 needs a standard FAT formatted card to work.

In these cases, a card could be formatted by the phone, but this is not always possible (the SX1 may just reject it, and say it is corrupt or invalid). Then a PC card reader could be used to format it. But, i doubt the store will be happy for you to try formatting it!

Faster uploading/downloading to your SX1

hi.

for those SX1 owners who have struggled to get content onto their memory card using the supplied USB connection... don't do it that way if you can avoid it.

Transfer rates to and from your memory card via the SX1 to a PC is very slow. (even with the newer firmware versions).

It is far better to transfer music, video and application file via a separate MMC memory card reader. If you purchase a new reader, make sure it is a USB2 device because that way, you will get transfer rates well above 1mb per second with our cards. (that is as much as 20X faster than via the SX1 USB connection).

When you are dealing with the bigger mmc cards that we sell (like 256MB and 512MB, and now 1Gb), this becomes increasingly important.

If you are to copy your latest CD album purchase onto your phone, you want it to take a minute or 2, not half an hour!!.

This is an issue for other phones as well. i don;t believe many mobile manufacturers have implemented a full-speed USB2 interface through their mobiles. Which means a separate reader/writer should always be quicker.
