My phone say there is no mp3s, no images, no videos etc on the memory card. The files are there, and the phone regonises that there is a card in the phone. It's well annoying and i can't find a solution anywhere. This website is by far the most helpful for just about every other topic. If someone could help me, that would be great as i really want to play mp3s on my phone.

Cheers,

Marcus.

o2 x3 FIRMWARE UPDATES

hi everyone

i've just bought an o2 x3, yes i agree, o2 could've made the mp3 storage and retrieval more logical.

1) does anyone know how i can check the firmware version of my phone?

2) also how can i update the firmware so that my phone can use a 2GB memory card (bought from moby obviously).

has anyone done this? please can you advise me, thank you

webtec

O2 X3 is actually a BenQ S700

Just found out by googling that the O2 X3 is actually a BenQ S700 in real life.

Have a look at

http://www.benq.com/Products/product.cfm?product=549

tried the handset manager on the download page but wont connect to the O2 X3 so there must be some slight differences.

If you look at the folder where the O2 X3 handset software is there are some files that do mention benq too.

Memory card and MP3 issoes on O2 X4

I have an O2 X4 phone and bough the moby memory 512mb mini sd and the mini sd usb reader. And it is not easy! Do you have the adaptor lead that goes from your card reader to your computer? If not, you need one. If you do, pm or email me because as I said, it's not that simple, and I can take you through it step by step if you want. I must say that the sound quality is VERY good and once you have sussed it it gets easier. Here is the method in the easiest way that I can explain:

First you need to make sure your songs are in mp3 format.

Then put your card in the reader and attach the adaptor lead to your computer.

Go to where your songs are stored.

Highlight the song you want to put on your phone. N.B: you cannot select a folder to transfer, I tried this and it won't work. You have to select the songs individually.

Select 'copy this file' or right-click and 'copy'.

Copy to 'E: drive, music'. It is important to make sure you copy to the 'music' folder, your songs won't play if you don't.

Take your mini SD card out of the reader and put it back into your phone.

Press the mp3 button on your phone. It wil say 'no files on card' first of all, but don't worry!

Press 'options', then 'edit playlist'. Your songs should be there (fingers crossed!). You just select the songs you want to play et voila!

I hope this helps anyone who is having difficulties, I only sussed it out through trial and error, and it is a very long-winded process especially if you are not going to be using the mp3 facility that often. GOOD LUCK!

Why wont it work

Hi I've just bought an o2 x3 found out i needed a bigger memory card and reader, so i got one off a friend. There are three options of encoding MP3 file(s):

Constant Bit Rate (CBR)- Bit rate is not changing is still same.

Average Bit Rate (ABR)- Bit rate is changing, and the quality of sound is better than in Constant bit rate.

Variable Bit Rate VBR)- Bit rate is changing realtime during the song ( between 96kbps and 256kbs if you choose the higher quality). Slightly bigger file again

MP3 files can be encoded from your CDs through a tool like dbpowerAMP (or another encoder of your choice) with the different bit rate and different encoding. Start from 96kbps up to 128kbps, which combines reasonable playback quality with pretty good compression (so room for more tracks). there is no direct way to get your MP3 files into your O2 X3 through the supplied software. Instead you must buy a card reader like this one (MobyMemory USB2 mini-SD Card Reader), or an Multi-format card reader (see these) and get an SD adapter jacket with a new mini-SD card (as supplied with all our cards). Then you connect the card up to your PC (or MAC) via the reader and copy and paste across your MP3 files to the mini-SD card.

The following screen shots are reporting the O2 X3 Mp3 Player in action with various encoded MP3 files. If you must squeeze more on, then try 96kbps VBR conversion.

One thing we did not like about the O2 X3 is that it does not let you keep your MP3 files nested in different levels of folders on the mini-SD card (i.e. by Artist and then by Album for example). Instead they all sit in the Music folder. But as it is not on the root folder, there is no FAT limitation on no. of files which is at least a good thing.. (this can be a bit of a problem for Nokia 6230 when in default mode of scanning the MMC)

We like the O2 X3 for its snazzy style, and useful music player (the sound is pretty good with the supplied headphones) all at a price much lower than most of the other phones in the same music function category.

check out our range of compatible mini-SD memory cards for the O2 X3, at sizes from 128MB up to the mighty 1GB mini-SD (you saw here first!)
All our mini-SD memory cards are compatible with the O2 X3 and come supplied with a free SD adapter jacket (so you can use the memory in SD-slot cameras, PDAs etc..) Also our new mini-SD Reader makes a great companion for one of our mini-SD cards (and it is discounted with the memory card purchase). Meaning there is no need to carry around the SD adapter jacket everywhere anymore..

HOWTO: O2 X3 Handset Manager software

O2 X3 Supplied Software: Using Handset Manager

'SyncCalendar'

Before you start to use SyncCalendar, you mast have Microsoft Outlook installed on your PC. SyncCalendar allows you to synchronize the information of Outlook Calendar to handset calendar.

Click the calendar on the left to start using SyncCalendar.

Time of PC has to be synchronize, before you start with SyncCalendar.

When you are done, you have to choose ' Update to handset ' update selected items to Handset Calendar.

SyncCalendar does not allow you to write handset Calendar items to the Outlook in order to keep the Outlook Calendar intact and avoid the incomplete handset Calendar from overwriting the Outlook Calendar.

When there is a lot of items to be written to the handset, Handset Manager will automatically choose a number of Outlook Calendar items to handsets based on different handset models, total capacity of the handset Calendar, and reserved items for user input.

You are allowed to setup recurring appointments in the Outlook Calendar. However, there are many different forms of recurring appointments of Outlook Calendar that may not be accepted by the handset. Therefore, Handset Manager will transform the recurring appointments of the Outlook Calendar to several non-recurring appointments and write to the handset.

The number of characters and character format that can be saved in the handset Calendar are different from handset to handset. For example, some handsets do not accept the character format in Traditional Chinese. SyncCalendar will automatically truncate the characters before saving to the handset.

Using 'Photo Album'

Why to use Handset photo manager? (which are fully compatible with the O2 X3).

Then, you can insert the card into your O2 X3 card slot (at base of the phone..)

Remove the SD card Slot cover from the bottom of your mobile.

Insert the mini SD card up side down and push into place until it clicks down and is held in place.
