hi standinwave,

if you have had no luck with your laptop (is that using a usb2 reader by the way..? or integrated reader?) then the card might be faulty.

Physical card faults are unusual, and a corrupted file system is more common, which can be fixed by re-formatting (following one of the sticky guides in our Repairing Memory cards forum) using a compatible usb2 card reader.

We dont recommend formatting in phones, and we dont recommend formatting with card readers integrated into PCs and laptops as they dont tend to handle well the larger capacity cards.

If you cannot re-format successfully, then please email your original order details to returns @ mobymemory.com and we will organise the replacement for you.

Hi All,

I just got a Nokia N80 yesterday after using a Moto A1000 for over a year. I ordered a 150x 2GB mobymemory which arrived today! The memory is not recognised by the N80 nor my Sony Vaio. I would be surprised if it arrived broken tbh.

The firmware is apparently the latest already (checked on website):

v 4.0623.0.41

Nokia N80 (45.02)

Where do I go from here? The supplied 128MB miniSD card works just fine in both machines. I am on a 3UK contract.

yeah photos I take with the camera are fine.

Its just the ones I transfer from my pc to the phone having issues. Yet they display fine on the Pc. The weird thing is that also if I copy a non working photo to the phone memory from the card it works fine!

I think I may have a duff phone so looking into changing it. (its the only variable I have changed yet!)

Hi!

O.k, I'm using the Adata 1 gig card and although it is slow (and I mean Slooooooooow!) everything is working fine. I too used to get the sailing boats on my old Sandisk card, but everything I've taken since the install of the Adata has been fine. However, I regularly back up all my pics to the pc using Nokia PC Suite and even the ones that were boats on the phone came out o.k on the pc, but when I transfered some of the 'boat pics' back to the phone to the new memory card, they initially went to the messages inbox, where they were fine (hooray!) but when I saved them to gallery they reverted to being boats (boo!). Simple answer, just don't delete any potential boats from your inbox after you've saved them to the gallery, better still, don't bother putting them back in the gallery as this seems to be where the problem is lying. I don't get it, I can only tell you what's happened to me! Hope this helps.

Sorry to start a new question here but:

I have had a few cards (Nokia Official, Moby memory etc), however can all of you confirm that although you say the cards you are using are "compatible" with the N80, which of you can confirm that with these cards loaded up with over 300 jpg images (varying in size up to 1024x768) that the Gallery thumbnails and the actual photos show up correctly?

When I click on them they flash up with an un-optimised version of the photo and then change to the Boat Icon. If I zoom in they show up, so it has to be the phone trying to make thumbnails that is the problem.

I have over 10meg of internal memory free, and it is an o2 phone with the latest o2 Firmware (v4)

Are all of your gallery photos working correctly?

Unable to see a folder "E:mymusic" either through the file manager on the phone, via Windows Explorer (connection in PC Suite mode) or having removed the card and using a card reader ? Don't forget I'm after the where the phone stores its list of music files etc (so that the phone doesn't scan the card each time you load the music player, unlike the 6230i). I know where the music files themselves are ! More guidance I'm afraid ...

Have just upgraded to a N80 after an unhappy year with a 6230i

N80 (aside from the shockingly bad battery life) seems a really good phone. Bizarrely on 31 Oct 2006 the Orange shop on Fleet Street sold me a version with v3 firmware which I quickly flashed to v4 via the Nokia website. v4 is dated end of July so you would think an Orange shop would be selling the most up-to-date phones ! Perhaps predictably rather than bizarrely...

A question though about the "music library". Having added a few files to my Mobymemory 2GB I dutifully went to "update library". This hung (needed battery out to restart). Subsequent attempts to update the library also hung.

I cured it by copying all the data off the card onto the PC, reformatting the card and copying the data back again (just the .mp3, .aac and .m4u files - not any of the system files which presumably included the corrupted library). The phone then rebuild the library which cured the problem.

Does anyone know however where the N80 keeps its files for the music library ? A better way to deal with the problem might be to delete the library system file and ask the phone to rebuild the library without the hassle of reformatting the card.

UPDATE! Adata card arrived this morning from Kong Kong, I formatted the card in the phone and then transferred all the data from my old card to it using the backup feature of the Nokia PC Suite. ALL games that refused to work on the old Sandisk card are now working again, HOORAY!!! Does seem slower than the Sandisk though, but if it works, frankly, I don't care! I'm on my 5th N80 and I hope it's my last. Also updated the firmware last night through Nokia's website, unbelievably took me nearly 4 HOURS at 6.9mbps. Had me worried that it had crashed when it didn't seem to be doing anything for ages! Lets hope all problems are getting sorted finally. Good luck to all N80 users including myself!!

we are getting plenty of orders from Nokia N80 owners for both Moby and SanDisk branded miniSd cards with very few RMAs.

We believe the initial issues are addressed now in the current firmwares of the Nokia N80 with the different operators (certainly for the UK).

Frenchy, you mention about Orange not having released any updated firmware, do they do this on their site or do you have to return the phone to them? I only knew of Nokia themselves doing firmware updates. Does anyone on here ever go to gsm arena? Great site, full of great info and reviews. The N95 sounds amazing, what with it's 5mp camera amongst other great things, it just worries me if Nokia will have ironed out all their smartphone problems?

Been to my local Orange shop today and they popped my Sandisk memory card in a brand new N73 and once again the icons came up but no games could be opened. Have now ordered a 1gb Adata card off e-bay, it's from Hong Kong but I'm not fussed about that. Just gotta wait for it to arrive now! Fingers crossed!

By the way, is the N73 any better spec wise than the N80 does anyone know? The guy in the shop reckons he could get me an N73 if this N80 stuffs up again. Shall I go for it? Can it be any worse? It's not as nice looking I don't think but if it's reliable that'd be a huge bonus! Thanks.

I tried my Moby Memory 2GB in an O2 N73 and it didn't recognise it. However, it did work in a 6280.

The problems you are getting I personally think is just down to the phone. I sometimes have these problems even on the supplied 128mb card from Nokia.

My N80 is on Vodafone and has V3 firmware. From what I have heard people saying on the offical Nokia discussion forum is that orange still hasn't released any updated firmware for N80. I sudgest you have a look on there to see whats going on with it.

Maybe other people on here will be able to shedsome light on this problem

Btw if anybody is thinking of updating the firmware from the Nokia site be very wary. On friday i killed my phone It stopped half way through the process and wont even switch on. It's now gotta be sent back to Nokia which takes 2 weeks so I have been told

Also, does this happen to anyone else I wonder?? I'm using a 1gb Sandisk mini sd card in my N80 with mixed success. Some of the photo's I have taken using the phone, seem to go perculiar in the gallery. You know when you go in the gallery to look at photo's you can scroll through them and see little thumbnails of the photo's? Well some of my photo's have turned into sailing boats! No word of a lie, where the thumbnail should be, there's a little square instead with a picture of a sailing boat in it! Sometimes, even the little boat pic is split diagonally in two! If I click on them, some successfully open into the photo they're meant to be, whereas others just stay mini saling boats. In some instances, you can see the thumbnail fine but when you click on it, it turns into a miniature sailing boat! Can anyone please tell me what this is?? Also, 2 N80's ago (I'm on my 5th, don't even go there!) I purchased three games from Orange, Chuckie Egg, Sonic the Hedgehog and Wolfmoon. All of the games worked fine and I had them saved to my memory card. My 4th phone never even got the chance cos it died after only 5 hours never to be revived, but my 5th phone shows the icons but I can't open the games, no matter what I've tried. Everything is saved to my memory card, photo's, contacts, music, the lot, and this is all there, just not the games. Once again, can anyone help me? Any help and advice greatfully appreciated. Thanks.

it should prove extremely useful to Nokia owners, and to us too! i will go for the Nokia e61 update myself!

Reading the FAQ, it seems like the updates will even apply over the operator-branded Nokia firmwares, which should remove a bottleneck where owners wait for their operator to test and release a particular flavour of the firmware.. (this can be months extra waiting in some cases).

Just be aware of the warning in the FAQ:

"6. Can an operator-branded Nokia device be updated with Nokia Software Updater?

Yes, but please note that not all operators may have approved the latest software for use in their devices."

You can visit your nearest Nokia Service Centre. Here in the UK, thats normally the local branch of Carphone Warehouse, but check here at this URL to search by postcode:

I too have recently brought a 2gb scandisk card and get the memory card corrupt message.

Hopefully this will get sorted soon as 128mb is not enough

that's nice to see Nokia seem to have got to grips with the compatibility issue.

The equivalent latest firmwares should be available by now from each of the main operators for other N80 owners who may still be struggling with their cards, both MobyMemory and SanDisk branded.

Literally pulled the card out of its packaging and whacked it in the phone - has been working flawlessly for the last couple of days, absolutely no issues (piccies / video / apps used).

There is a new firmware release for Nokia N80 that has reportedly now fixed the problem with 2GB miniSd cards (including SanDisk and MobyMemory branded) in the Nokia N80.

We are still trying to confirm the version no. or better that is required but we suggest people who have encountered problems, despite replicating the folder structure to , consult their local Nokia service centre for news of the latest update.

We would appreciate anyone (including gorilla) who is using MobyMemory 2GB mini SD or SanDisk miniSD cards now without a problem to report back their operator and firmware version on this forum (the operators tend to roll-out different flavours of the firmwares provided to them by nokia at slightly different times/codes) so others know to check their own firmwares against.

I ordered the moby memory 2gb card and it works fine. I formatted it in the phone before I did anything, then copied the original file structure from the nokia supplied card onto the new card and I have yet to encounter any problems.

I sent off for an Adata 2GB but got sent a Transcend 2GB card which works fine in my N80.
