How to convert DVD to iPhone (Windows)

1.Download the DVD to iPhone software, install and run it.

2. Insert the DVD you'd like to convert to your computer's DVD drive.

3. Click 'File' menu and 'Open DVD', or directly hit 'Open DVD' button to load the DVD. Set the profile to be iPhone 480*320 mpeg-4 video which is the default DVD video quality.

4. Click around in the DVD's menu to set up DVD playback as you like, select the subtitle and audio sound tracks etc, then begin to play the movie through the software by click the play button.

5. If want to set more functiones, click ‘More options’, then it pops up like following. That is all.

If you'd like to record from certain time point, or want to change some parameters like 'output format', 'video bitrates', 'frame rate', 'audio bitrates', please click 'No' button to close the window.

When everything setted as your need, then click ‘Record it’ button. Done, just so easy!

Does anyone know if a java application exists that plays mp3 and other music formats, that I can use as a replacement to the in-built Nokia Music Player ?

I can see no reason why such a java application does'nt exist, however i've yet to find it..

6230i & 2Gb MMC playlist issues

Hello guys,

I hope some can help me..!

My setup is:

6320i / NNM v2.0 (PC Suite 6.82.21.0) / FW 3.80 / Transcend 2gb MMC

1. I copied tracks via NMM to my collection to convert to AAC format.

2. I then copied the tracks using card reader slot on my laptop to my MMC card. This is all ok - about 1.9gb worth of tracks.

My problems are:

1. When I open music player - the track numbers are lsted, but the titles appear as square boxes?!!

2. I bought a dku-2 usb cable - as I'd read you can't copy playlists without it...however, when it's connected (only seems to work in non-data storage mode); I used the phone browser to copy playlists to it. However, when I browse the phone - I don't see any directory called "playlists". Where is it?

Hope that all makes sense?!!

Or should I give up using NNM?

No problems getting (so far) 110 tracks on the card, but when using the phone view I can only see about 50 of them. I can see all the playlists I have created, but cannot see many of the tracks I want to add to them. Anybody know why this is and how it can be corrected?

HOWTO : Convert your iTunes music library to a mobile-friendly format

Audience: For iPod / Windows PC owners with a “smart” mobile (with MMC/SD slot).

Intro:

This is a guide on how to convert your existing (and probably extensive) iTunes music library into a format that you can play from your mobile.

iPod^* owners everywhere have probably spent many long laborious hours importing all the albums from their CD collections into the iTunes^*music library on their PC.

This is not something you will readily want to repeat from scratch with the Nokia Audio Manager (or equiv.) to get your music accessible from your mobile.

Fortunately, there is an alternative offered through the many different music file conversion utilities available on the 3^rd party software market. For the purposes of this guide, we will be using the range of utilties available from dbPowerAMP.com .

First of all, you have to find out what the Target format is for the music files you want to convert.

This willdepend on the type of mobile you own.

.MP3 file format is appropriate for the following mobiles:

Siemens SX1, Siemens SL45, Sharp GX-30, Nokia 6600 (with 3^rd party MP3 player), motorola A920/925..

.AAC file format is the preference for the following (although they can all play .MP3 as well):

Nokia 6230, Nokia n-Gage, Nokia 7610, Nokia 3650, Nokia 3300..

.WMA file format is the preference for any of the available windows-based smartphones:

Orange SPV / E200, Motorola mpx200, O2 XDAII..

There are other alternatives like .AMR, and .OGG format (Ogg Vorbis standard), but are less common. (Ogg players are available for the symbian-based mobiles like Nokia 6600, Siemens SX1, Nokia n-Gage ). AMR is a lower quality encoding standard, not likely to satisfy all but the least demanding of music listeners (but it is useful for providing short mono voice recordings on mobiles).

Some mobiles are capable of playing a variety of different music file formats (Nokia 6230 can play .aac, .mp3, .amr)

In this case, if you are not too bothered about the portability aspect of your music, then descending order of preference is probably:

AAC à WMA à MP3 à AMR.

This is because AAC and WMA are both newer compression standards, and so employ a more efficient compression algorithm than MP3, making for smaller files (which means more music on your memory card!). However, if you also want to play your digital music in your car stereo (MP3-CD), in your old MP3 player, and any number of other players, then portability may be more important to you than file size. Then, MP3 may still be the best format for you to convert to.

Fortunately dbPowerAMP Music Converter is capable of converting music files to any of these formats, when combined with the available codecs.

To start:

Open up the iTunes application on your Windows PC.

Select [Edit] - [Preferences] option in iTunes menu.

From the dialog, select the [Importing] tab to verify what standard your iTunes has been encoding with in its music library.

The default here is displayed below: (namely AAC to 128kbps)

Write down these details somewhere (you will need them later).

Now select the [Advanced] tab and note where the music library is stored on your PCs hard drive:

Now, if you haven’t already, download and install the following components from dbPowerAMP.com.

For converting from MP4 AAC (which is the iTunes default), you need the following [AAC to Mp4 & Mp4 to AAC] codec:

This will enable you to convert an .M4A file (used in iTunes, iPod, Nero) into a standard .AAC file that can be played by your mobile player (for Nokia 6230, Nokia n-Gage, Nokia 3650 / 3300 )

If you want to convert to .WMA (for a Windows smartphone), then download the .WMA codecs:

For conversion to MP3, dBpowerAMP already comes supplied with the best MP3 encoder (LAME).

Once the dBpowerAMP Music Convertor and all the necessary codecs have been installed, open it up.

In the main application dialog, you get the option of which format you would like to convert to from the drop-down box at the top:

Make your selection according to your type of mobile. Then you will have the choice of some advanced options ( click the [Advanced] button) to set things like the quality of encoding ).

As a rule, for most people, the following bit rates can be regarded as a good quality:

.AAC - 64kbps encoding

.WMA – 96kbps (or 64kbps)

.MP3 - 128kbps CBR

(and if VBR – variable bit rate – encoding is used, 96kbps is acceptable.

NB. Please note that not all MP3 players in mobiles can play the full range of encoding options, from 48kbps up to 320kbps, and CBR ,to VBR).

Once the options are set, then click the [Convert] button.

dBpowerAMP will display a progress bar, and start to work its way through the selected files, writing them to the selected destination folder.

When complete, those compatible music files (whether .aac for your Nokia 6230, .MP3 for your Siemens SX1 etc) can be transferred to your MobyMemory MMC card (preferably via a memory card reader).

All you have to do now is load the MMC card into your mobile and you can take part of your iTunes music library with you if you leave your iPod behind!

But remember to try and use as a good a quality source as possible for conversion (either the original CD, or a high bit-rate encoding of your CD such as that provided in iTunes music library by default). You can convert down in bit-rate, but if you try and convert up, you will be making a larger file for no quality benefit in sound at all (because with lossy compression, the information has already been lost from the original encoding of the source file).

I bought a 1Gb card based on all the advice on this site, for my 7610, what it doesnt tell you in the 'how to' guide is that the phone is mono!!! Which in my mind makes it a complete waste of time... a mono mp3 player - you are having a laugh surely - this is the 21st century.

I am a tad pi$$ed off about this as I have spent £20.00 on possibly the worst mp3 player in the world...

I am trying to put mp3's onto my 1gb mobymemory mmc+ card. However, I've put 515mb (and still have 464mb left!) of music on, now the card wont accept any more, just says..."Cannot copy: The directory or file cannot be created."

Ive re-formatted the card to FAT not FAT32 and am using a mobymemory card reader.

Have tried drag-drop method and sending to mobile uploader.

has anyone else had this problem? its like wasting half the memory card space!

Sorry if this has been discussed before - I'm new to all this - but I recently boaught a 2GB card for my Nokia 6230i and am very pleased with its capacity. I've got nearly 50 albums on it. The only problem is it now takes six and a half minutes for the media player to start up. Which is ridiculous.

I know the media player defaults to reading 'All Tracks' before allowing you to select the individual playlist you want to listen to. But is there some way to speed up this process? I know other phones don't take this long to 'load up' - even with 1 and 2GB cards.

And if it the loading process can't be sped up - does anyone know if Nokia is looking into getting this fixed for their next 6230 phone? Its such a good phone apart form this glaringly obvious design flaw...

Hi, I'm new to this, not sure if I've put this query in the right place or not - it's all a bit hit and miss but I'm getting a bit desperate!

I recently bought a Nokia 62301 and installed the Nokia PC Suite, also Bluetooth Mini Dongle and installed the BlueSoleil. All OK until I decided I wanted to have a go at downloading mp3 music tracks. Being new to all this, it took me ages so I was not very happy to get a message saying I didn't have enough memory. The book that came with the phone mentions "listening to your favourite tracks" though it didn't say exactly how many!. There were two Tears for Fears tracks already on it which have now been deleted to make more room. I have only 4 music tracks on my phone. I bought a new 512mb MMC card and was keen to get downloading. Again I'm told I don't have enough memory. The Nokia PC Suite is not recognising my 512 card but is still 'reading' my old 32mb card. I have looked at some of the other messages and people seem to have successfully transferred music files/play lists. How have you done this when I don't seem to be able to and why is the PC suite not recognising the new card? It's all a bit disappointing. Can someone help me out here please, and give me some very simple, easy to understand instructions as to what I need to do here.Thanks.

Having learnt to live with (never love) Nokia Audio Manager, I (foolishly ?) accepted the proferred "upgrade" this morning to PC Suite v6.8.20 which comes with Nokia Music Manager.

I grant that NMM looks prettier than NAM. However I can't seem to work out how to access tracks held in subfolders on the memory card in order to build a playlist containing those tracks. As we all know, the only way to keep a 6230i sane is to take music tracks off the root directory and keep them in subfolders. But now I can't build playlists referencing them ! Anyone worked it out yet ?

6230 mp3 limitations

ok, recently purchased 1GB MMC
filled with MP3's, in the root so music player picks them up
can browse in gallery, but music player crashes and reboots phone when trying to run.
Assuming this is due to the FAT limitation discussed on threads, I have 254 MP3's in the root of the card, about 950MB worth.

Solution as I understand is to split this into subfolders, and as Music Player doesn't reference to these, I need to set up a playlist that will do that.

That means I have to get a data cable or bluetooth PC connection in order to send the playlist to the phone?

Whilst a pain in the *rse, I'm sure I can achieve this.

However, to what level do I need to split the MP3's into subfolders? Two, five, twenty? Filenames are song titles of course, so anywhere from three to thirty characters in length. x254 files as mentioned earlier. Perhaps I'll just split them by artist as folders?

If anyone has some confirmation/comments on the above, that would be much appreciated.

Hi, i tried following the guide on here to create custom play lists but when i try to import the empty playlist to my phones folder it doesn't allow it it says used space 0kb free space 0kb

any ideas whats wrong? i know i have free space on my mobiles memory and the standard playlist(files in root) work fine

my firmware is v4.44 and im using a 512 memory card

I'm desperate to find headphone cables for the Nokia 6230 which don't have the heavy thing in the middle ..... makes it almost impossible to use without it pulling it out of your ears. As I listen to just the MP3s and not the radio, is there a simple headphone to connector out there on the market?? Every Nokia shop I go into the answer is no and nothing on the horizon............

Ello, got 1gb of tunes stored on my MMC that i've been using happily since November, thanks MobyMemory.

My one gripe is - what is the maximum amount of files allowed in a playlist? I'd love to have all my tracks just on shuffle and repeat, rather than listening to a specific album each time. Anything over 100 just seems to go un-noticed on the phone. Any info would be appreciated

6230: EAC or Nokia AAC?

I've read Webmaster's impressive definitive guide to Converting CDs to MP3s, and other more recent posts in this excellent resource, but I'm still confused. I can rip a CD using EAC, LAME and FreeDb, put my Moby 1Gb in my computer slot, transfer the album to MMC, and then play it fine on my 6230. So what's my problem? Thing is, EAC might indicate a file size of, say, 33Mb before rip and compression. By the time it's in the phone, it's 57Mb. As some albums are even bigger, 90-100Mb, I won't have room for many albums.

I looked at the Webmaster's instructions for adjusting the External Compression. In the current EAC you can select the bitrate, and I selected 112. I did not alter the "Additional Command Line Options" because mine looks different to the Webmaster's 25/05/04 suggestions. Mine offers: %l--alt-preset 128%l%h--alt-preset standard%h %s %d and I'm worried about changing this as I don't really know what I'm doing. What exactly should I write here?

So: first question, please: what should I change those settings to to enable a smaller file size commensurate with reasonable quality?

I read that the Nokia PC Suite will rip CDs, and I tried that. It appears to be much slower than EAC - yes? The file sizes do appear to be smaller using AAC. But the FreeDb is such an elegant timesaver: is there any way to label the tracks using FreeDb? Or do I have to do it manually? That's my second question: concise Nokia AAC and the tedium of writing tracks in, or large-ish EAC with auto track-labelling?

Third question: volume. The 6230 + Nokia earphones are just loud enough in a quiet room for my old ears. I do have some cheap Maplin noise-cancelling headphones, which work fine in cars, buses and planes. Will the 6230 drive them? And how? Or would you suggest another solution?

I recently purchased a 2GB SD card for my phone, and a MP-230 MP3 player with it. These items arrived today

When I insert the card into the MP3 player it is saying that there is no card.

The card is working in my phone no problem.

Is the MP3 player faulty? Or does it not take 2GB cards?

I have a query regarding the application of a ringtone I downloaded some time ago. When I access the downloaded tone from the 'Sounds' menu on the phone, I am not given the option to 'Apply as Ringtone'. Please advise how I can apply as a ringtone? I have looked at the music file & its size is 10.6kb & its type is AMR. In comparison, another ringtone I downloaded & was able to apply is 7.01kb & is a MIDI file.

I hope that whatever can be done is through using the phone as I don't really want to use special software.

I got this phone for x'mas I managed to transfer one song mp3 format to the phone via infared.

However if i try to transfer other songs via infared or even bluetooth it just comes up as not enough memory, although i have a 32mb memory card. I even tried it through the nokia suite, it still doesnt work

Can someone explain how this process works, its getting fustrating !!!

Hello there,

Am trying to use my Samsung D600 not just for music, but also for playing audio files such as learning Spanish. Now the trouble is that although these files are in the mp3 format I keep getting the error message of 'unsupported file format' The Samsung software wont allow me to to up/load these files to anywhere but 'Other Files' on my phone, but when I try to play them back I get hit with the unsupported files crap. The only other info that I can give you is that the bit rate of the files are 32kbps. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, please can someone help before I throw my 6230i out of the window. I have spent most of the day converting cd's to aac and loading them on my Moby 1gb card that I previously used in my 6230. However, wanting to create an empty playlist file and drag it into the mobile phone window is impossible; it just won't let me unlike the 6230 did so I could add files from the mmc. Neither does the old software recognise my phone on Nokia Audio Manager. I must be going wrong somewhere but I've tried so much and am now tired, hacked off and wondering why I ditched the 6230 - camera of course! Also the music player takes ages to turn on and has crashed several times. I did copy the new hidden files on the mmc that came with the 6230i, and deleted the old ones just in case but no avail (sigh). Please anyone, any help available?

I have ordered last week a MMC card 2 GB for my Nokia 6600. tThe Nokia 6600 is listed in the compatible list. Today the delivery arrived but the phone tells me the card is damaged. I have re-formatted the card and have installed the Route 66 software on it. When i plug the card in the card reader the PC can read the card and i have full Access. I need this size because Route 66 Europe need 1.3 GB for ALL maps to be installed. What could be the problem here, and what the solution.
