Posted 9/7/2004 10:06 PM | | | hi lateralus, you should find with a USB2 memory card reader, the transferring part is pretty straightforward, and a lot quicker than leaving in situ in your phone. only hassle is flipping the back open to refit the card. but it save many minutes, and means you can transfer your files straight in Windows Explorer. A Nokia 6230 and a big MMC is definitely a winning combo. cheers

| Posted 9/15/2004 11:22 PM | | | With contract: Nokia 6230 = FREE (big moby spenders out there can get a free upgrade with your operator!) Hi I've just ordered a 1GB card for my 6230. I've been reading through the forums and getting tons of useful advice. I was just wondering what you meant by the big moby spenders getting a free upgrade. Does the purchase of a Moby card give you some kind of voucherfor a phone upgrade, or am I misinterpreting this? Cheers |
| Posted 9/16/2004 1:05 PM | | | No Misunderstanding i'm afraid. 'Moby' or 'Mobi' can be shorthand for mobile. Big mobile users (people with high call charges per month) can get a free upgrade to the Nokia 6230 with their operator in the UK, if they renew their operator contract for another year.. normally on a tariff of about £30 or month or bit less. The only discounts we offer are on the price of our memory card readers for those who purchase our memory cards. cheers

| Posted 10/1/2004 11:41 AM | | | Advantage: The 1 Gig MMC card can also be used in my Pentax Camera (which takes SD and MMC). Which is great for holidays etc when I always run out of space.
Also I tend to renew my phone every year (free under contract), so even if my next phone does not take MMC, I can use it in my camera.

Andrew, would be great if you can post your camera model & make (in Post Header) in the [Other Devices] so that other users know which is compatible. I just tested one of our 1Gb with a new Konica Minolta Dimage Z3, and that worked fine..giving nearly 1000 photos at high quality. Cheers

| Posted 11/29/2004 1:25 PM | | | hey nice discussion... gud detailing and reasoning out has been done... i specially liked it acuse i own both... a 15gb ipod and a nokia 6230 and i am going to be buyin a 1gb card for my 6230 this week.. i jus wanted to confirm if it gets hung or slows cell in any way?????? |
| Posted 11/29/2004 2:46 PM | | | you should be fine, although some 6230 owners have had issues in the past. These can be due to to an unfortunate combination of factors including: 6230 hardware (internal electrical connections like attached headset or not can make a difference) 6230 firmware (the later the better e.g. v4.44) MP3 files being played (in terms of bit rate & encoding) memory card - some cards do cause issues occasionally (we replace as and when this happens with any of our cards). environmental conditions like signal strength on cell will affect (esp. on MP3 as ringtone) If you are unlucky enough to have any skipping or phone freezing, you can almost always come to a working solution through changing these factors around (e..g flashing your firmware, or changing your MP3 bit rate or encoder, or switching to AAC (native format on 6230 music player). But we are honest and still point out these issues, even though the vast majority of users will not suffer from them. Cheers

| Posted 11/29/2004 5:08 PM | | | | my firmware version is 4.28... tell me something.. is it possible to update it in any way?.. so that i can update and then use the memory card of 1gb for better performance? |
| Posted 7/27/2005 1:55 PM | | | I've gone for a 1GB card for my 6230 instead of an iPod. For me you can't beat the all-in-one benefit. I do see one drawback that no one has mentioned though. I take it you can use an iPod during a flight but not the 6230? Sara. |
| Posted 8/24/2005 7:40 PM | | | Well, I've been using my 6230 nearly everyday as a music player, nearly a year and I cannot fault it. I have a 1gb card and get about 20 albums on, i tend to go for 96kbs mp3, encoded in iTunes. The only gripe, is the headphones, to quiet. However Nokia are releasing a port converter so you can use standared headphones, link below if your interested.
