| | | Recently got a 4GB SD memory card from MobyMemory for my new Sanyo Xacti HD1 camcorder for maximum space currently available, should be able to capture just under an hour of the SHQ-HD (720p Super High Quality High Definition). Card happily handles the read/write speeds required at the highest HD settings for the video recorder, which is great. This is a SD 1.1 specification device, so make sure you get a card that is compatible with the standard to enable 720p recording. So far results are great for stills, video excellent on TV, but need to upgrade the clunky old home PC to get smooth running video with the mpeg4. When I get a chance will post up some sample shots for others to see results. Can also recommend buying with the MobyMemory reader, which is helpful for transferring the large files between PCs quickly. |

| | Right now if you must have the highest quality video recording available written to flash memory, then the Sanyo Xacti HD1 is the only way to go. The guys at Stuff magazine were very impressed with it too, and now that the high speed 4GB SD and 2GB SD are so good value, there seems little point in persevering with hard drive, or the faintly-ridiculous DVD-burner videocams.
For high def on memory card, the Sanyo Xacti HD1 is the winner (and only option right now), but in the mobile phone video spectrum, we are really looking forward to the Nokia N93 launch. this device is about to rewrite the benchmark in the standard of video possible from a smartphone, with DVD-quality encoding straight to the most efficient MP4 format as well.
Its not 720p high-def quality yet, but it certainly looks like blowing the rest of the video mobiles out of the water (for the time being at least).
Nokia are beginning to take their position as the largest maker of digital still and video cameras in the world very seriously..
