I have just bought the 4Gb MMC for my Nokia 6230.

As with my previous 1GB card, I have copied over my albums in MP3 format to phone with a playlist as the albums contents.

The problem is that when I have about 65 playlists on my phone and I try to change playlist the phone crashes and restarts. On deleting playlists the phone works again.

Does anybody know if there is a limit to the number of playlists on the 6230 or do I need a firmware upgrade? I am currently on V 05.24 firmare.

Siminone,

I don't have a 4Gb card or anywhere near 65+ playlists but I'll try to help.

First of all when EXACTLY does the phone crash?

Is it:

1. When you bring up the list of playlists?

or

2. When you have selected a playlist to change to?

If it's the first then I can't be of much help.  If it's the second then there are two further things you can check.  The phone normally crashes when loading the playlist for one of two reasons.

Firstly the playlist may be too big - I think the playlist itself has to be less than 15kb in size.  Or secondly there could be a 'dodgy' MP3 in that tracklist.  I used to have problems with some MP3's made with certain software and if one of these was part of a playlist it would cause the phone to crash when loading.

You're best bet is going to be to try to narrow it down to which playlist crashes you're phone, and then try to narrow it down to which file.

Hope that helps,

NiVZ

Thanks for taking the time to reply NiVZ.

Unfortunately it is when I bring up the list of playlists, the phone crashes. The problem really is to do with the limit of 65 playlists.

I deleted all tracks and playlists off my phone and then copied them back over using Nokia Suite. When it comes to 65 playlists, it crashes. You don't one, it goes ok.

I deleted all the playlists and created 65 playlists of the one track. It still crashes.

Thanks for posting back Siminone.

It might be worth contacting Nokia just to ask them - but don't expect a quick reply from them.

I know there are newer firmwares than v5.24 (think 5.40 is the latest) but I don't know anyone who has it that would also have a 4GB card to test with.

If your Nokia is less than 12 months old you can get a free firmware upgrade at any Nokia Service Centre (usually a Carphone Warehouse shop) but if it is older than 12 months you have to pay (at they're discretion but prices are around £20 - £35!!)

Also be aware that getting a firmware upgrade deletes EVERYTHING (contacts, photos, videos, messages, ringtones, settings (GPRS, MMS), etc) on your phone so be sure to back it up first.

thanks for the suggestion, sounds a bit expensive for firmware upgrade.

I would've been cheaper buying a MP3 player!!!

Hey guys. Does anyone know if a 4gb card works on a nokia 6230? I mean is the phone able to run at least fluently with such a big card. The product details say that it is compatible with a 6230 but I would like to hear someone who tried it. It might be possible that it will run on a 6230 but I dont want the phone to load itself for ages. It would be great to have 4gbs on my phone but it doesnt seem possible to me. Does someone have personal experience with a 4gb card in a nokia 6230? thanks

Hi Padre

I have a 4gb card installed on my 6230 and everything works fine. The loadup time for the phone is the same as it was with the 1gb gard I had.

No matter what size of card you have, the more music files you have stored on your phone, the longer the music player takes to load. I had over a 1000 songs and it was taking about 5 to 10 minutes, maybe longer.

If you're buying the 4gb card just for music I would advise against it. It looks like the 6230 was only designed to be like a ipod nano rather than a fully functioning jukebox.

thanks fo replying. I definitely will use the card for music only so do you think that I should rather go for a 2gb card or even 1 gb? thanks
P.S: What do you use your card for?
Does it take 10 minutes to load and than works fine?

Yes it works fine after it loads up, padre. I had bought the 4gb card to store all my albums. This is impratical due the long music player startup times and limit to playlists.

I now encode my songs at maximum MP3 bitrate and store a selection of them on phone to be used as shuffle playlists.
